The Federal Highway is a highway in the Australian state of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. It connects the Hume Highway west of Goulburn with the Barton Highway and Northbourne Avenue ( the Kings Highway and the Monaro Highway leads ) in the Australian capital Canberra.

The highway is part of the National Highway connection between Sydney and Canberra.

History

The Federal Highway was built in the 1930s as a long distance road and replaced the older connection via Tarago and Queanbeyan. Between 1985 and 2002 they built the road to a four-lane highway.

Course

Approximately 11 km west of Goulburn branches of the Federal Highway from the Hume Highway ( N31 ​​), the main road between Sydney and Melbourne, from the southwest. Along the western shore of Lake George it leads to Ginns Gap, where he crossed the border to the Australian Capital Territory.
