Basil Dignam

Basil Dignam ( born October 24, 1905 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England; † January 31, 1979 in Westminster, London, England ) was a British actor.

Life

Dignam had his acting debut in 1948 in the British television production Morning Departure. In 1950, he appeared in a production of Arthur Wing Pinero The Second Mrs. Tanqueray at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. In 1954, he starred in Charles Morgan's The Burning Glass at the Apollo Theatre in London's West End.

From the 1950s had Dignam supporting roles in many British productions, including the Hammer horror film shock, the Carry On film comedy head up, chest out! as well as David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia. He was doing mostly used due to its appearance as a lawyer, politician or officer.

He participated as a guest star in many British television series, including The Avengers and melon, Department S and The Two. On the side of Patrick McGoohan, he played both in secret mission for John Drake as well as in number 6

Dignam was married to actress Mona Washbourne. His brother, Mark Dignam worked as an actor.
