Bavarian ML 2/2

ML 2/2, PtL 2/2, DR 98.36

The locomotives of the type ML 2/2 of the Bavarian State Railways were light and very compact steam locomotives to operate on local railways. They were a counter-proposal by Maffei to built by Krauss locomotives of Class PtL 2/2 ( " glass box ").

The Krauss- machines had in common the ML 2/2 the wheel arrangement B, the semi automatic coal, which allowed a one-man operation, and rounds with railings, which allowed the front and rear hazard-free access to the wagon train. However, the engine was a completely different; The locomotives have two outer cylinder with two opposed pistons which were disposed between the two axes. The axes were connected via internal coupling rods.

1906 delivered Maffei first three locomotives (train numbers 4001-4003 ). Despite the unusual and extremely complicated for a two-cylinder locomotive engine, the machinery and Maffei proven delivered until 1908 another 21 specimens (No. 4004-4024 ). The good experiences with these locomotives also resulted in the construction of the steam railcar of the genus MCCI whose motor bogie and boiler essentially corresponded to the ML 2/2.

Three locomotives were sold in 1922 to the United fireclay factories in Marktredwitz. The remaining machines were completely contained as 98361-384 in provisional renumbering plan of the Reichsbahn in 1923; however, they were retired by 1924. The reason for this was the complicated and high-maintenance engine.

MÁV 12

For suburban services in Budapest, Magyar Királyi Államvasutak Gépgyára ( Maschinenfabrik the state railway ) built in 1907 two machines with the serial no. 1976 and 1977, the later series 12 These were built under license of ML 2/2 by Maffei. From the unconventional basic design was to collect a better balance of the moving masses and thus a smoother running engine than with previously used in the same service locomotives. The maximum permissible speed for the construction was in Hungary 60 km / h As in Bavaria, but also needed in Hungary maintenance of lying within the framework engine parts greater effort than expected. The original car numbers MII 10101 and 10102 were redrawn with the new numbering scheme in 1911 in 12.001 and 12.002.
