Beharovce

Beharovce ( German Beharz or Beharowitz, Hungarian Beharóc ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, with a population of 178 (as at 31 December 2011) and belongs to Okres Levoča kraj a circle of Prešov.

Geography

The municipality is located in the eastern part of the basin Hornádska kotlina in the shadow of both the Levočské mountains in the north and in the east of the Branisko. The center is located at an altitude of 459 m nm, 19 kilometers east of Levoča, and 35 kilometers west of Prešov.

Not far from the village there is the motorway tunnel Branisko.

History

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1338. The people served the nearby Spis Castle in various occupations, including as messenger, which has given to the church its name (Slovak Béhat = walk ).

Population

According to the census 2001 (171 inhabitants), the population consists exclusively of Slovaks, who have all announced to the Roman Catholic Church.
