Belfahy

Belfahy is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Belfahy situated at an altitude of 831 m above sea level and is the highest municipality of the department, about 19 km north- northwest of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the extreme east of the department, in the southern Vosges on the southwestern slope of the balloon, between the valleys of Ognon in the west and in the east Rahin.

The area of ​​3.07 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Southern Vosges. The area is bordered by two ravines that open to the north- west to the Valley of Doue de l' Eau (inflow of Ognon ): in the southwest of the Ruisseau du aux Chiens lapel, north of the Ruisseau de Derrière les Roches. In between is the slope ahead of Belfahy which rises to the east up to the top of the balloon, on the 1050 m the highest peak of Belfahy is achieved. The eastern boundary runs along the ridge that descends steeply to the valley of the Rahin in Plancher -les -Mines. The heights of the Vosges Massif are constructed predominantly of crystalline bedrock. Large parts of the area are composed of coniferous forest. The entire municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

Neighboring communities of Belfahy are Miellin in the north, Plancher -les -Mines to the east and Servance the south and west.

History

In the Middle Ages Belfahy belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Belfahy is a member of the 12 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes de la Haute Vallée de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The village church of Belfahy was built in the 19th century. It is home altars and a pulpit from the 18th century and a wooden statue of St. Sebastian (17th century).

Population

With 79 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Belfahy one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 519 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Belfahy is still a predominantly by agriculture ( dairy farming and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located far away from the larger passage axes. The main access is from the pass between Plancher -Bas and face. Further road links exist with Servance Miellin.
