Bellaire is a city in Harris County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States of America and is part of the Houston - Sugar Land - Baytown Metropolitan Area.

Geography

The city is located on Interstate 610 in southeast Texas, is about 70 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 9.4 km ², without significant water surface. The distance to Houston in the Northeast is about 11 km.

History

William Wright Baldwin, president of the South End Land Company and vice president of the Burlington Railroad, founded Bellaire and Westmoreland Farms after he had bought the 9449 -acre Rice Ranch in 1908 and named it after the city Bellaire, Ohio, which is also known for its railway was approached.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 15,642 people in 6,019 households and 4,321 families. The population density was 1668.3 people per km ². Ethnically, the population itself is composed of 89.11 % White, 0.84 % African American, 0.27 % Native American, 6.35 % Asian, 0.06 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 1.85 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.52% are descended from two or more races, and 7.81 % of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 6,019 households, 38.8 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.3 % were married couples living together. 8.1% were single mothers and 28.2 % were non-families. 23.5 % of all households were single-person households and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size is 3.09.

27.6% of the population were under 18 years old, 3.9 % from 18 to 24, 29.9% 25-44, 26.8 % from 45 to 64, and 11.9 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 86.3 males.

The median income for a household was $ 89,775, and the median income for a family $ 104,200. Males have a median income of $ 72,295 versus $ 49,766 for females. The per capita income was $ 46,674. 2.6 % of the population and 1.9 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 2.5 % have children under the age of 18 and 5.1% of those 65 or older.
