Benjamin Thomsen

Benjamin Thomsen ( born August 25, 1987 in Invermere, British Columbia) is a Canadian alpine skier. He starts since 2010 in the World Cup, and is especially successful in the speed disciplines Downhill and Super -G.

Biography

Thomsen grew up as the son of two ski instructors in Invermere and stood at the age of two years for the first time on skis. He drove his first race as a five year old and trained henceforth Windermere Valley Ski Club. Thomsen took after reaching the age limit in the 2002/2003 season for the first time in FIS races in part, but only came in February 2005 for the first time in the top ten. Finally The first victory was in December 2007. Nor- Am Cup in the Canadian starts since December 2004, but here he reached initially no significant results. Only in the 2006/2007 season he was able to score several times, taking second in the Super -G from Apex for the first time took ninth place in the top ten. Shortly thereafter, he started at the Junior World Championships 2007 in Altenmarkt, where he finished 23rd in the downhill and 27th in super -G. In the 2009/2010 season he scored in the Nor- Am Cup in the disciplines of downhill and super -G standings again several times in the top ten, which he finished seventh in the downhill and tenth in the super-G standings. He came at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games as a precursor in these disciplines to use and got three weeks later in Kvitfjell the first time the opportunity to participate in World Cup races. The following season, 2010/2011 Thomsen was already regularly in the World Cup for use. After his first podium finish in the Nor- Am Cup (third in the departure of Lake Louise ), he won 18 December 2010 his first World Cup points when he reached on the Saslong in Val Gardena with start number 58 on the 16th place in the downhill. Then he came at the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch -Partenkirchen for use, where he finished 18th in the downhill and 19th in super -G. In 2011 he was finally convened in the squad of the Canadian ski team.

On February 4, 2012 Thomsen finished fifth in the downhill in Chamonix and thus his first top- 10 finish in the World Cup with start number 50. A week later he drove at the Olympic rehearsal in Krasnaya Polyana near Sochi on the second place and achieved his first podium.
