Berengaria of León

Berengaria of Leon, or also called Berenguela (* 1201, † April 12, 1237 in Constantine Opel ), was an empress of the Latin Empire of Constantinople Opel. She was a daughter of King Alfonso IX. of León and Queen Berenguela of Castile from the House of Burgundy - Ivrea, her brother was later canonized King Ferdinand III. of Castile and Leon.

Berengaria was married in 1224 in Toledo with the much older John of Brienne, the ex - king of Jerusalem. While her husband in Italy against his son, Emperor Frederick II, fought them lived for a time in Paris at the court of her aunt, the Queen Blanche of France. After John had been elected in 1229 from the Latin barons of Greece to their Emperor, Berengaria traveled with him in 1231 to Constantinople Opel where they were crowned in Hagia Sophia.

According to a document of the Abbey Maubuisson Berengaria died just days after her husband. Their common children were:
