Berkanowo

Berkanowo ( German Berkenow ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship. It belongs to the Gmina Świdwin (Town Schivelbein ) in the powiat Świdwiński.

Geographical Location

Berkanowo located 14 kilometers northwest of Świdwin on the border with powiat Lobeski ( Labes ). The western boundary of the municipality is the Mołstowa ( Molstow ), a tributary of the Rega. Berkanowo can be reached by a road connection from Świdwin about Leckow and Kartlow.

History

Berkenow was mentioned for the first time in documents in 1569. Dionis Back then sold Scharn the city Schivelbein half Kossate in Berkenow. In exchange contract of Margrave John of Brandenburg- Kuestrin with the Order of St. John is the place mentioned.

Since 1762 the manor was in the possession of the von Schmidt. In the 17th century, Michael Henry of Rüchel Owner of the Manor at Semerow and Berkenow and District Administrator of Schivelbein 1687-1694.

In 1811, there were nine full- farmers and a half farmers in Berkenow. When Bauer regulation 1823 five farmers were recognized. In 1884 Berkenow was with 1337 hectares, the largest manor of the circle Schivelbein. As later Restgut it had in 1924 still a size of 500 hectares, its owner was in 1928 by Dr. Schmidt.

On the Restgut the United Saatzuchten in Ebstorf ( district Uelzen / Lüneburg Heath ) had several test areas for the cultivation of grain and potatoes. Addition, there were two farms. Agriculture coined the place and gave the majority of the population work and bread. There was also a blacksmith, a shoemaker, a watchmaking and an inn.

To Berkenow belonged the two kilometers distant Vorwerk four, but that was last no longer inhabited. It lay on the edge of a marshy meadow area and was a haven for storks.

Berkenow belonged until 1932 to the circle Schivelbein until this in the county Belgard ( Persante ) was incorporated. 1939, the village had 260 inhabitants in 62 households in a community area of ​​1067.1 hectares. The place was in official and civil registry district Schlenzig and in the District Court area Schivelbein.

In 1945 the place to Poland. Berkenow became Berkanowo and now forms a district of Gmina Świdwin.

Church

Parish

The independent church Berkenow formed until 1945 with the parishes Kartlow and Semerow the parish Semerow, which also Meseritz belonged. The parish was in the church circle Schivelbein in the church of the Evangelical Church of Pomerania Old Prussian Union.

In 1940 the parish Semerow counted a total of 830 church members, of whom belonged 298 to the parish Berkenow. Last German minister was Pastor Hermann Blumenbach, who managed the parish until 1933. After that, the place was left vacant, and Rev. Dr. Walter Lüdke from the neighboring parish Rützenhagen supplied the church members.

Today Berkanowo is part of the parish Koszalin ( Koszalin ) in the Diocese of Pomerania - Greater Poland the Polish Evangelical-Augsburg Church.

Village Church

The Berkenower church is a simple rectangular stone building, dating from the 19th century. The ringing bells consisted of two (64 and 60 cm diameter). One of them (cast in 1774 ) has survived the Second World War on the bell cemetery in Hamburg. It is located today in the Protestant Church in Bergen in the Palatinate.
