Bernard III, Lord of Lippe

Bernhard III. zur Lippe (* around 1194, † 1265 ) was ruler of the reign lip.

Life

Bernhard was born around 1194, the son of the noble Lord Herman II and Countess Oda von Tecklenburg. Bernhard followed in 1229 the fallen father as ruler of the house lip and called himself since 1232 "by the grace of God " and at times " Count ".

Bernhard was like his brothers and his grandfather Bernhard II ( lip ) warlike. 1254-1256 he was acting head of the pin Paderborn, was the real founder of territorial sovereignty lip and won by the bishop's brother, Simon, I. of Paderborn important positions added, so that he could rearrange the church with its help.

The cities of Horn and Blomberg was promoted by him. With Lippstadt he was in a feud because he could not build there castle. Bernhard III. also led feuds against the cities of Ravens Mountain, Sternberg, and against the house of Waldeck. The house lip was severely weakened under his leadership through these frequent feuds.

Bernhard married in 1240 Countess Sofie van Cuijck - Arnsberg ( and of Rietberg, about 1210 to about 1245; heiress of the rule Rheda, daughter of Godfrey II of Arnsberg and of Rietberg and Elizabeth N), from whose marriage the children

  • Bernhard IV zur Lippe ( 1230 - 1275 )
  • Hermann III. zur Lippe (around 1233 - October 3 1274)
  • Hedwig zur Lippe (around 1238 - March 5, 1271 ), married to Count Otto III. Ravens mountain
  • Gerhard zur Lippe, dean of Bremen (around 1240-1259 ), was defeated in the Bremen pin feud against Hildebold Wunstorf
  • Dietrich zur Lippe, cathedral minister to Minden (c. 1244 to after 1271)

His second marriage concluded Bernhard in 1248 with Countess Sophie of Ravens mountain Vechta ( around 1220 until after June 3, 1285 ), daughter of Count Otto II of Ravens mountain and Countess Sophie of Oldenburg. From this marriage the following children were born:

  • Elisabeth zur Lippe ( 1250 to after 1316 ), married to Baldwin II of Steinfurt
  • Agnes of Lippe (around 1251-1307 ), married with Hoyer I. von Sternberg
  • Adelheid of Lippe, married to Adolf I of Schwalenberg
  • Sophie zur Lippe (around 1249 - February 1, 1275 ), married to Albert I of Regenstein
