Bernoulli family

Bernoulli is the name of a family of scholars, which has produced many famous scientists and artists from the 17th century until today.

The father of the Dutch Protestant Leon Bernoulli is considered, who worked as a doctor in Antwerp. His son Jacob Bernoulli emigrated in 1570 on religious grounds to Frankfurt am Main.

Jacobs grandson of the same settled around 1620 in Basel, where she earned the 1622 civil rights. His son ( Leon's great-grandson ), the spice Niklaus Bernoulli ( 1623-1708 ) founded with his wife Margarethe Schönauer the detail here discussed branch of the family, in particular spawned mathematicians in the first generations. Made famous are especially Jacob, Johann and Daniel Bernoulli. From whose hand many well-known mathematical and physical achievements in various areas come.

In the following centuries, yet emerged many scientists and in modern times, some artists from the family. Hans Bernoulli is used as an architect, perhaps the most well-known Bernoulli from the 20th century and is the old mathematicians. From him some buildings and settlements in Basel and Zurich come.
