Bersteland

The municipality is located in Bersteland Dahme- Spreewald (Brandenburg) and is a member of the Office Unterspreewald.

It was formed on 1 February 2002 from the voluntary merger of previously independent communities and districts today Freiwalde, Niewitz and Reichwalde.

Geography

The municipality is in the east of the Baruth glacial valley on the River Berste. The Berste which rises south of Luckau and turns in Bersteland to the east, flows a few kilometers in Lubben (Spreewald) in the Spree. The site reached near the hamlet Niewitz 85 m above sea level. NN.

History

District Freiwalde

1345 emerged the place the first time in a document. The village church (rectangular neo-Gothic building ) dates from 1871.

District Reichwalde

Reichwalde ( Wendish Rikowald, Rychwald ) was first documented in 1170.

In a property surrounded by swamps Wendish Wall built in the 12th/13th. Century the lords Strehle and Bieberstein the " castle Reichwalde ". The castle was the center of a small aristocracy, the rule Reichwalde, which included around 1400 eleven to thirteen villages. This was sold in 1414 and broke up. The greater part came to the city Luckau, a smaller part went to the rule Storkow (and later to the Office Storkow ). The castle was canceled.

District Niewitz

As for Freiwalde also applies Niewitz 1345 as the year of the earliest documentary mention.

The well-preserved structure of a circular settlement is Wendish origin. The name of the village comes from the Lower Sorbian word nieva = fertile farmland.

By 1950, bricks were produced in Niewitz that drew their material from the nearby clay pits.

Economy and infrastructure

The industrial area in the district Freiwalde, which includes the Motorway tank and Rastanlage Freiwalde, employs many residents. In Niewitz the Speewaldpark branded hotel is 200 beds.

Transport links

Through the municipal area, the Federal Highway leads 13 (Berlin- Dresden). The exit Freiwalde is the link for here the highway crossing state road 115 ( Lubben - Jiiterbog ). The nearest train station is in the near Schoenwald on the railway line Berlin- Cottbus.
