Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis

The Berthold Leibinger Innovation Award is an internationally advertised prize for applied laser technology. He is one of the most important innovation and research awards in optics.

Since 2000, the biannual prize is awarded by the Berthold Leibinger Foundation for Innovations in applied laser technology. The first prize is worth 30,000 euros, the second prize of 20,000 euros and the third prize of 10,000 euros. The winners will be selected from eight nominees who are invited to the jury session to present their work.

Tender and Award Ceremony

The first call in 2000 limited the issue on laser technology in production. In 2002, the fields of application biotechnology and medicine were added. Since 2006, the price includes the entire laser technology without restrictions. Application is open to individuals and groups. Besides your own application also may be submitted. Submitted works must have been published or released for publication.

The first award ceremony on November 26, 2000 coincided with the celebrations of the 70th birthday of the founder Berthold Leibinger. The speeches held the then Baden-Württemberg Minister President and then President of the Max Planck Society, Hubert Markl, who was also a member of the jury. The prize will be awarded in a ceremony held since then as an independent event. Other keynote speaker were: Manfred Erhardt (2002), Eike Lehmann (2004 ), Joachim Milberg (2006 ), Jürgen Mlynek (2008) and Peter Gruss (2010).

In 2006, the Foundation supplemented the Innovation Award at the not openly advertised Laser Research Award Berthold Leibinger Future Prize.
