Geographical Location

Bickenbach located on the northern Hessian mountain road, halfway between the metropolitan areas of the Rhine- Main and Rhine- Neckar.

Neighboring communities

Bickenbach is bordered to the north by the city Pfungstadt, on the east by the municipality of Seeheim- Jugenheim, in the south on the community Alsbach and in the west on the town of Gernsheim ( Groß -Gerau ).

History

The place was already inhabited in the Roman period. In marshy Won " Schiffslache " archaeologists discovered a small castle from the 1st century and the swamp bridge Bickenbach. In the neighborhood of this ground monuments, Villa rustica " stone wall ".

Bickenbach was first mentioned in 874 in a deed of the Lorsch codex. Until the late 15th century the place was closely linked to the Lorsch Abbey and its feudal lords. On August 4, 1971, the municipality Bickenbach was awarded a coat of arms with the following blazon in the former district of Darmstadt: Red, by a double row of silver diamonds diagonally right divided shield; top left with the district character (broad -ended cross over ring at the bottom is open.
