Bill Quinn

William " Bill" Tyrrell Quinn ( born May 6, 1912 in New York City, New York, † April 29, 1994 in Camarillo, California ) was an American actor.

Life

Quinn began his career in childhood as a vaudeville artist and had his Broadway debut under the name " Billy Quinn " at the age of six years. 1924 he also appeared as a child actor on in a silent movie. Later, he was part of the radio ensemble of Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre. After many years in the theater, including many Broadway productions, he moved from the mid-1950s to Hollywood. In 1958 he received the role of the bartender Frank Sweeney in the hit western series, west of Santa Fe, which he represented until 1963 in 38 episodes, and through which he brought it to a certain familiarity with the U.S. television audience.

His film career has been less successful. Although he participated in several famous movies, including Otto Preminger's film drama Advise and Consent, Alfred Hitchcock's thriller The Birds and the literary adaptation The 27th floor; however, his roles were all subordinate nature and partly not even mentioned in the credits. Better, however, was his television career, he had numerous guest roles in a variety of formats and series was including in recurring roles in The Chief, The Odd Couple, Owen Marshall - to see defense lawyers and Mary Tyler Moore. In the sitcom All in the Family, he had a recurring guest role as Mr. Van Ranseleer; a role that he portrayed in 61 episodes in the spinoff Archie Bunker 's Place. One of his few major movie roles he gave in 1981, written by Dan O'Bannon horror film Dead & buried next to Robert Englund. In his last role, he represented the father of Dr. Leonard " Bones" McCoy in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier dar.
