Bill Thomson (ice hockey)

William Ferguson "Bill" Thomson ( born March 23, 1914 in Troon, United Kingdom; † August 6, 1993 ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who in his active period from 1930 to 1949, including for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League played.

Career

Bill Thomson began his career as a hockey player in the youth team of the Kenora Thistles, for which he was active in the 1930/31 season. He subsequently played for six years for the amateur side ports Athur ports - later renamed Bearcats and Indians. With the team from Port Arthur, he represented Canada at the Olympic Winter Games 1936. Following the tournament he remained for a year in Port Arthur before moving into professional hockey. In the season 1937/38, the winger played for the Syracuse Stars of the International - American Hockey League. In these he also started the following season, before he moved within the IAHL to the Pittsburgh Hornets.

From 1939 to 1941 Thomson was for the AHL participants Indianapolis Capitals on the ice. The season 1941/42 he spent with the Omaha Knights of the American Hockey Association. From 1942 to 1945 he ran again for the Indianapolis Capitals on in the AHL. In addition to his numerous stations in the Minor Leagues, he also played ten times for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League.

From 1945 to 1949 Thomson ran for the St. Louis Flyers and Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League and the Minneapolis Millers, Tulsa Oilers and Dallas Texans in the United States Hockey League and the Seattle Ironmen from the Pacific Coast Hockey League on. Then the Olympian finished by 1932 his career at the age of 37 years.

Internationally

For Canada, Thomson took part in the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, where he won the silver medal with his team.
