Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester

HRH Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester ( born June 20, 1946 in Odense, Denmark ) is a member of the British royal family. Her husband, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, is a grandson of King George V.

Curriculum vitae

Birgitte Eva Henriksen was born in Odense, the daughter of a lawyer. When her parents separated, she took the maiden name of her mother van Deurs. She worked at the Danish Embassy in London.

In February 1972, she became engaged to Prince Richard of Gloucester, the second son of Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, and Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. The marriage took place on 8 July 1972.

Six weeks after the wedding crashed the elder brother of her husband, William of Gloucester, his plane off and died at the crash site. This inherited her husband the title of the Duke of Gloucester, when his father died in 1974.

The couple has three children:

  • Alexander Windsor, Earl of Ulster (born 24 October 1974)
  • Lady Davina Lewis ( born November 19, 1977)
  • Lady Rose Gilman (born 1 March 1980).

The children take all no official duties. The couple lived in London at Kensington Palace.

The Duchess is patron of many British organizations. Your interests and activities focus in particular in the fields of medicine, education, and working with the disadvantaged.

She is an honorary Colonel of the Regiment and the 7th Battalion Bermuda Rifles Regiment and the patroness of two ships of the Royal Navy.
