Birkir Bjarnason

Birkir Bjarnason (2007)

Birkir Bjarnason (born 27 May 1988 in Akureyri ) is an Icelandic football player. He's since 2013 with Sampdoria in Serie A under contract and in the Icelandic national football team active. He plays in midfield.

Career

Birkir began his career as a football player in the school team of Sandved Elementary School in 2000, where his teachers Sigbjørn was a great inspiration for him. Bjarnason came in the summer of 2005 by Figgjo to Viking Stavanger. In the 2006/07 season he scored his first goal for Viking against Hamarkameratene. The Serie A club Reggina Calcio offered Birkir in January 2008 to a contract. The Icelanders declined the offer and stayed with Viking. For Stavanger he scored to end of season 2011 in 102 league games 16 goals.

On January 13, 2012, he signed a four year contract with Standard Liege in Belgium, however, was the 2012/13 season in the Italian second division Delfino Pescara 1936 borrowed.
