Black River Falls is located in western Wisconsin to the waterfalls (English: any) of the Black River, a left tributary of the Mississippi.

History

Black River Falls was founded in 1839 by Jacob Spaulding, with the aim to make the water power of the Black River available. Because the surrounding area was densely forested, the water was used primarily for the operation of sawmills.
