Blackburn (Victoria)

Blackburn is a suburb of the Australian city of Melbourne and is between Box Hill and Nunawading only 20 km east of the city center. He belongs to the administrative area Whitehorse City. The district is named after one of its first settlers, the designer of the Yan - Yan - water reservoirs in Melbourne, James Blackburn, who had then settled south of the small town on the Blackburn Creek.

History

A first hotel was built in 1861 for travelers and gold mining, followed by a second 1865. More than 10 years later (1876 ) opened the first post office opened in 1882 and the railway line between Box Hill and Lilydale. By train the actual development Blackburns started.
