Bo Welch

Robert W. " Bo" Welch III ( born November 30, 1951 in Yardley, Pennsylvania) is an American production designer, art director and director.

Life

Bo Welch began his film career in 1979 in the film crew of the film comedy head over heels with John Heard in the lead role. Two years later he worked as a set designer at Michael Crichton's Not Murder of the rod. In the 1980s he worked as an art director on several films, including Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple, for which he received his first Oscar nomination. In 1988, he first worked with Tim Burton on Beetlejuice. For the second collaboration, Edward Scissorhands, Welch was again nominated for an Oscar and won the BAFTA Award. Between 1987 and 2002 he worked on fifteen films together with the production designer Cheryl Carasik. Overall, Welch was nominated four times for an Oscar.

In 2003 he made ​​his debut as a film director; of the stories based on Dr. Seuss children's film Cat in the Hat, however, brought him a nomination for the Razzie as Worst Director. The film was also nominated as the worst movie, even leading actor Mike Myers, the Supporting Actor Alec Baldwin and Kelly Preston and the screenwriters received nominations appropriate.

Welch has been married to the Canadian actress and screenwriter Catherine O'Hara since 1992, the couple has two children.
