History

The first idea was created in 1987 during a European conference for students of mathematics and physics in Stockholm (Sweden). It was decided to hold bi-annual International Week. This should take place every time in a different country to develop the interaction between the students.

The second International Week was held in March 1988 in Grenoble (France). Not only students of mathematics and physics came to this meeting, but also from other disciplines. The next week was held in Eindhoven ( The Netherlands). The first specially aligned for BEST meeting was held in April 1989 in Berlin ( Germany ). There, the basic structure has been decided. The Association shall consist of a Board of Directors (Board), consist of a general assembly and of members. The delegates who took part, came from all over Europe.

During the meeting in Budapest in November 1990, the summer program has emerged as a group of courses, each lasting two weeks and take place throughout Europe. In the summer of 1991, so there was the first 13 summer courses. In the first three years they have been supported by the EU TEMPUS program.

The organization has continued to grow, adding new members have been added and new projects were developed. During the XIV General Assembly has decided to apply in collaboration with CESAER and SEFI for the thematic network H3E in the Socrates program of the European Union. This network, officially founded in 1996, should deal with the future of education in the field of engineering sciences and was the first thematic network in which students can participate as equal partners.

For XV. General Meeting in Belgium, the club has begun a close partnership with the German organization bonding- studenteninitiative eV. Every team is the activities of the other recognize to start a cooperation. Since 2002, BEST is also working with the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students ( CFES ).
