Bobsleigh at the 1968 Winter Olympics

In the X. 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble two competitions were held in bobsled. The bobsled was located at L' Alpe d' Huez on the Col de Poutran, at an altitude of around 2000 meters. She was 1500 meters long, had 13 curves and overcame a height difference of 140 meters. Although it was basically a natural track, but three were directly exposed to the solar radiation curves with ammonia and liquid nitrogen artificially iced. Fluctuating weather and shifts marked the two competitions.

However, only the Italians received a gold medal awarded: The regulations prescribed that at that time a tie, the best individual performance is decisive ( in the last run Monti and De Paolis had a new track record set ).

This contest should have been originally held on 14 and 15 February. The jury decided on 17 February to conduct only two runs and to dispense with the 3rd and 4th round. On this day, the situation improved with a cold snap to -13 ° C so strong that the missing barrels had any problems can be carried out, but the jury held fast to its decision. Represented were 19 four-man bob from eleven countries with a total of 76 participants.
