Bois-d'Amont

Bois- d'Amont is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bois- d'Amont situated on 1076 m above sea level. M., ten kilometers east of Morez and about 38 km north of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the valley of the Orbe on both sides of the river, between the heights of the forest Risoux in the northwest and the Mont Pelé in the southeast, northeast of Lac des Rousses, in close proximity to the border of Switzerland.

The area of ​​12.06 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The landscape is characterized by parallel ridges and terrain longitudinal troughs, which are oriented in the southwest-northeast, according to the strike of the Jura Mountains in the area. The central part of the municipal area is occupied by the valley of the Orbe, the southwestern continuation of the Vallée de Joux, which is a syncline of the Jura Mountains. History

The area of Bois- d'Amont was cleared in the Middle Ages by the monks of the Abbey of Saint- Claude and reclaimed. After the Reformation, the city formed the boundary between the reformed, under Bernese supremacy Vallée de Joux and the continued Catholic uppermost part of the Orbe Valley, which belonged to the Free County of Burgundy. Together with the Franche -Comté came Bois- d'Amont with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population
