Chapelle-des-Bois

Chapelle -des- Bois is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chapelle -des- Bois is situated at 1,085 m above sea level, about eleven kilometers northeast of the city Morez (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in a wide opening at the northwest foot of the Risoux belonging rock wall Roche Champion, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​39.69 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The landscape is dominated by the wide longitudinal recess of Chapelle -des- Bois, which are oriented in the southwest-northeast, according to the strike of the Jura Mountains in the area. It is divided into a number of wells, of which the Combe des Cives forms the northeastern statements. History

In the Middle Ages the present territory of Chapelle -des- Bois and belonged to the dominions Châtelblanc and Mouthe. It was merely a collection of some farms without a real town center. It was only in 1632 founded the settlers of the area, which the church in Chaux- Neuve was too strenuous because of the distance, a chapel, which was named Chapelle it - bos (chapel in the forest). Attractions

The church from the 17th century has a Gothic choir. In Chapelle -des- Bois, there are many characteristic farmhouses in the traditional style of the high Jura from the 17th to the 19th century. Population

With 263 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Chapelle -des- Bois is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 602 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Chapelle -des- Bois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads to La Chaux -Neuve from Morez. Another road connection with Morbier.
