Bonnevaux (Doubs)

Bonnevaux is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bonnevaux is located at 845 m above sea level, about 17 km southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the southern edge of the broad plateaux of Arlier ( Pontarlier - Frasnian ), both sides of the Drugeon, at the foot of the height of Bonnevaux.

The area of ​​16.53 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Arlier, which is an average of 840 meters. It is partly covered by meadows, but also shows greater bog and forest areas. The area is drained by the Drugeon which emerges here from the cluse of oies and a sharp bend to the north- east is characterized, for Doubs. Previously meandered the Drugeon the moorland area, today he is largely channeled. In the north- west of the municipality floor extends to the shore of the bog lake Etang de Frasnian, in the northeast on the shores of Lac de l' ENTONNOIR. To the east, the municipality's area extends on a spur of the Montagne du Laveron ( to 1030 m) and in the Klustal the upper Drugeon ( cluse of oies ). The southeast of the village location, densely wooded height of Bonnevaux which forms an anticline of the Jura Mountains in geological- tectonic terms, belongs to the municipality. Here the highest elevation of Bonnevaux is achieved with 1097 m.

Neighboring communities of Bonnevaux are Frasnian and Bouverans in the north, Vaux- et- Chantegrue in the southeast, southwest, and Mignovillard in Bief -du- Fourg in the West.

History

The village is mentioned in the Middle Ages under the Latinized name Bona vallis ( good valley). In the Middle Ages belonged to the rule Bonnevaux La Rivière, which was under the lords of Chalon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 2003 Bonnevaux is a member of the comprehensive 10 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Plateau de Frasnian et du Val du Drugeon.

Attractions

The château is a manor in the 18th century and today serves as a holiday camp. In the village are traditional farmhouses in the Haut-Doubs from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved, including the Pastorale, which houses a local history museum.

Population

With 341 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Bonnevaux is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 403 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Bonnevaux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are now a number of companies of small businesses, including a sawmill. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

As a resort in a popular tourist area in the High Jura Bonnevaux now benefiting also from tourism. The community is mainly focused on winter tourism. Of significance of Nordic skiing ( cross-country) are also the alpine skiing. On the slope south of the village is a ski lift in operation with good snow conditions.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Frasnian after Labergement -Sainte -Marie. Further road links exist with La Riviere Drugeon, Censeau and Remoray - Boujeons.
