Brey -et -Maison -du -Bois is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Brey -et -Maison -du -Bois is located at 914 m above sea level, 19 km south-southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village street lines extending in the Jura, in the valley of the Ruisseau de Lhaut north of the longitudinal recess of the Val de Mouthe and west of the Mont de la Croix.

The area of ​​6.18 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the partly swampy Talniederung the Ruisseau de Lhaut. This stream drains the area north to the Lac de Remoray and thus to the Doubs. The valley is a fossil valley of the Doubs. It is in the east of the height of Mont de la Croix flanked ( to 975 m). History

Is first mentioned Brey in 1241 under the name of Bre. The place name probably derives from the Gallic word Bracu (peat ). In the Middle Ages Brey belonged to the rule Rochejean. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since the time of the French Revolution Le Brey, together with Maison- du- Bois, a double church. Today Brey -et -Maison -du -Bois is a member of the comprehensive 13 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Hauts du Doubs.

Attractions

Population

With 98 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Brey -et -Maison -du -Bois is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 166 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Brey -et- Maisons -du -Bois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village.
