Les Villedieu

Les Villedieu is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Les Villedieu is on 941 m above sea level, some 21 km south-southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village street lines extending in the Jura, on a small hill in the longitudinal recess of the Val de Mouthe, on the southern edge of the valley of the Doubs, north of Risoux, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​15:07 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern part of the area occupied by the approximately 1.5 km wide longitudinal trough of the Val de Mouthe that forms a syncline in geological- tectonic terms. The Doubs meanders through a wide, partly vermoorte Talniederung and drains the area to the northeast. It forms the northern boundary. To the south, the municipality's area extends over a wooded hillside ( Forêt des Villedieu ) on the partly forested, partly covered with pasture height that reaches out from the Mont d'Or to the southwest and passes over to the Petit Risoux. At a summit of the Cret Sapeau is 1290 m reached the highest elevation of Villedieu Les. There are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. On the south of the municipality extends to the bottom of the Talniederung Grande Combe.

Neighboring municipalities of Les Villedieu are Sarrageois and Gellin in the West, Brey -et -Maison -du -Bois in the north, the east, and Jean Roche, the Swiss town of Le Lieu in the south.

History

The name of the first mentioned in the 13th century Villedieu is derived from the Latin de Villa Dei (Weiler / Country House of God). In the Middle Ages Villedieu belonged to the rule Rochejean. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Villedieu Les is a member of the comprehensive 13 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Hauts du Doubs.

Attractions

The village church in Villedieu -les- Mouthe was built in 1833. In the center a few farmhouses in the traditional style of the high Jura from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.

Population

With 185 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Les Villedieu is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 235 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Villedieu Les was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares near the secondary road D437, which runs from Saint -Laurent -en- Grandvaux to Pontarlier. Another road connection with Rochejean.
