Les Pontets

Les Pontets is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Les Pontets lies on 1008 m above sea level, about 25 km southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in the valley of the Combes Dernières south of the chain of Haute Joux with the Turchet and north of the Val de Mouthe.

The area of ​​6.36 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area is from the valley floor of the Combes Dernières (1005 m) taken, which forms a syncline of the Jura Mountains in structural geological terms. At the lowest points this valley is vermoort and in the southwest is a small marsh pond. However, the area shows no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. This valley is flanked to the south by the hilltops of Les Esseux ( 1071 m). In the north, the municipality's area extends to the densely wooded broad crest of the Haute Joux with the two peaks Turchet ( 1227 m) and Saint- Sorlin, on the 1237 m the highest peak of Les Pontets is achieved.

Neighboring municipalities of Les Pontets are Cerniébaud and Mignovillard in the north, Rondefontaine in the east, the south and Mouthe Reculfoz in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Les Pontets belonged to the rule Mouthe. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Les Pontets is a member of the comprehensive 13 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Hauts du Doubs.

Attractions

The parish church of Les Pontets was built in 1845. In the village is a manor house dating from the 18th century, which was enlarged in the 19th century. Some characteristic farmhouses in the traditional style of the High Jura from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.

Population

With 123 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Les Pontets is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 184 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Les Pontets was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises, including a cheese factory and a sawmill. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Chaux- Neuve to Remoray - Boujeons. Further road links exist with Mouthe and Nozeroy.
