Boldești-Scăeni

Boldesti - Scaeni [ boldeʃt ʲ - scəen ʲ ] (rarely also: Boldesti - Scăieni ) is a city in Prahova county in the Wallachia region of Romania.

Geographical location

Boldesti - Scaeni is located in the foothills of the southern part of the Eastern Carpathians, in the floodplain of the river Teleajen - a tributary of the Prahova -. The county seat Ploieşti is situated about 10 km south of Boldesti - Scaeni away.

History

Boldesti - Scaeni was done in 1968 by the union of two villages, Boldesti and Scaeni. The new administrative entity was applied simultaneously to the city.

Archaeological finds prove the settlement of the area since Neolithic times. Boldesti 1503, Scaeni 1581 first mentioned. 1835/36 Scaeni was a seat of Phalanstère movement of Charles Fourier, before the experiment by distrustful authorities was dissolved. In the 20th century the economic importance of the two villages increased by the discovery and exploitation of oil and natural gas deposits. On August 1, 1943 - during the Second World War - were Boldesti and Scaeni through Operation Tidal Wave, an Allied air raid on the oil industry associations to Ploieşti, strongly affected.

In addition to the petroleum industry, agriculture is the main industry of the city.

Population

As of the 2002 census, there were 11,491 inhabitants in Boldesti - Scaeni, including 10,992 Romanians, 550 Roma and 10 Hungary. 10,439 people lived in the city proper, the others in eingemeindeten village Seciu. 2011 11.137 people were registered on the territory of Boldesti - Scaeni.

Traffic

Boldesti - Scaeni has two stations on the branch line from Ploieşti after Maneciu; currently operate in both directions (2009) three local trains daily. There are regular bus services to Ploieşti. The city is located on the National Road (drum National) DN 1A from Bucharest to Brasov Săcele in a circle.
