Bolko III of Münsterberg

Bolko III. Münsterberg (sometimes Bolko II of Münsterberg, Polish Bolko III Ziębicki; Czech Boleslav III Minstrberský; . * 1344-1348; † June 13, 1410 ) was from 1358 to 1410 Duke of Münsterberg and 1404-1406 Governor of Upper Lusatia.

Life

Bolko III. Münsterberg came from the Silesian branch of the Piast dynasty. His parents were Duke Nicholas of Münsterberg and Agnes of Lichtenburg ( Anežka z Lichtenburka, † 1370 ).

When his father's death in 1358 Nicholas Bolko III was. not yet of legal age, which is why he was initially under the tutelage of his mother. From about 1360 he took over the government of the duchy. During his reign, he sat, like its two predecessors, the sell-out of the Duchy continued. After the death of his uncle Bolko II of Schweidnitz 1368 he tried in vain to get to its heritage.

1369/1370 to Bolko married to Euphemia († 1411 ), daughter of Duke Bolesław of Bytom and Cosel. She had been married since 1364, first marriage to Wenzel von Falkenberg, who died in 1369. Through the marriage Bolko got to the city of Gliwice, which was one of Euphemia's heritage. Short of money, he sold Gliwice already in 1373 to Konrad II of oil which the well Kanth Bolko acquired in 1379. After chasing Bolko 1385 sold to Teschen, had only a city and precincts Münsterberg in his possession.

Bolko III. was a loyal follower of the Bohemian King Charles IV, at whose court he stayed several times. 1394 he was, together with Charles's son and successor Wenceslas IV arrested. This is probably why he transferred Wenzel 1396-1400 the office of a Judge of the High Court. 1403 he offered himself along with his son Nicholas († 1405) and the Duke of Legnica Ruprecht the Archduke Albrecht IV hostage instead of King Wenceslas, which was held by the latter in prison. 1404-1406 he was Governor of Upper Lusatia.

Bolko III. died on June 13, 1410; His body was buried in the family vault of the monastery Heinrichau.
