Borough of Waverley

Waverley is an administrative district with the status of a borough in the county of Surrey in England. It is named after the Waverley Abbey, the oldest Cistercian monastery in Britain. Council is based in Godalming, however largest city is Farnham. Other important towns are Alfold, Bramley, Chiddingfold, Churt, Cranleigh, Dunsfold, Elstead, Ewhurst, Frensham, Haslemere, Witley and Wonersh.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the Municipal Borough Godalming, Farnham and Haslemere Urban District and the Rural District Hambledon.
