Bourboulenc

Bourboulenc is an ancient white grape variety.

It is cultivated in the south of France for centuries, especially in Provence, the southern Rhone Valley and Languedoc. It is relatively rare because they only in good years is reliably mature very late ripening variety, and is almost only used as a blend. It is included as one of the thirteen permitted varieties in Châteauneuf -du -Pape and is added to give the wine more acidity and freshness. Only in the characterful white wines of La Clappe ( an area near Narbonne in the Languedoc ), it is used as the predominant species.
