Boutros Mouallem
Pierre Muallem SMSP, also Boutros Muallem ( born May 10, 1928 in Eilaboun, Israel) is Archbishop Emeritus of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church for the Melkite Christians living in Israel, with the bishop's seat in Haifa. His birthplace Eilaboun ( عيلبون Ailabun, Hebrew: עַילַבּוּן, עֵילַבּוּן ) is an inhabited by Israeli Arabs Local Association in Israel 's North District. The approximately 4,800 inhabitants are predominantly Christian Palestinians.
Bishop in Brazil
Pierre Muallem was consecrated on November 21, 1955 Chaplain of the Missionary Society of St. Paul. The appointment for the third bishop of the Melkites in Brazil took place on 20 April 1990. Episcopal ordination was on June 29, 1990 by Patriarch Maximos V Hakim Archbishop and the co-consecrators Archbishop Jean Mansour SMSP, Auxiliary Bishop of Antioch, and Archbishop Jean Asaad Haddad of Tyre carried out in Lebanon. On 29 July 1998 Muallem was appointed Archbishop of Akka in Israel and was the successor of Archbishop Maximos Salloum. Participants in the Synod of Bishops
From 16 November to 12 December 1997, he was a participant at the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for America in Rome. In his comments on the final bulletin, he called to learn from the long experience of the Eastern Churches and to use it for America. In his six points, he demanded a ) to exercise more of their own rites, b. Allowed to ) exercise the rites of the Eastern Churches under their responsibility c. Establish a commission for the Eastern Churches ) at each Episcopal Conference, d ) the formation of to build a study center for theology, liturgy and spirituality in America, e ) communities and monasteries with a " double rite " and, ultimately, should be taught in schools and other educational institutions more about the Eastern Churches and their spiritual heritage.
Retirement
Reasons of age, he became Professor Emeritus on 18 July 2003, indicates Archbishop Georges Nicolas Haddad has given it as Apostolic Administrator to the side, who led the business until 2006. 2006 was Muallem Mitkonsekrator his successor in office, Archbishop Elias Chacour.
