Bouzonville

Bouzonville ( German Busendorf, Lorraine Busendroff ) is a commune with 4077 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Boulay -Moselle, and is capital of the canton Bouzonville.

Geography

The small town is situated on the bank of the Nied Bouzonville in Niedland ( Pays de Nied ), about 18 kilometers west of Saarlouis, and 30 km east of Thionville.

To Bouzonville include the districts Heckling, Benting and Aidling.

History

The place is first mentioned as Buosonis villa, the German name appears in 1365 as Büsendorff on. Since 1766 Bouzonville belongs to France. 1871-1918 he belonged in the realm of country Alsace-Lorraine to the German Empire.

The Holy Cross Church, equipped with a splinter of the Holy Cross was consecrated in 1033 by the Bishop of Metz. 1340 destroyed the reconstruction began immediately and completed before the end of the 14th century. The relic of the Holy Cross was burned during the French Revolution. 1912 was given the parish a new relic.
