Boveney

Boveney is a village in Buckinghamshire, England and is located near Windsor.

The village's name comes from Old English and means on the island '. This name refers to the location of the place in relation to the nearby island in the Thames. The Anglo-Saxon name for the village was Bufanege.

Boveney was once a hamlet belonging to the Parish of Burnham, however, has long been considered a separate village, especially since the growth of Slough, which is very close. The place was in 1866 an independent civil parish. From 1894 to 1934 Boveney belonged to Eton Rural District. The community was founded in 1934 as a result of Boveney County Review Order dissolved, leaving the stäarker populated parts Boveneys Eton were slammed and the larger, less inhabited rest came to Dorney.

St Mary Magdalene 's Church is located in a secluded part of the village on the banks of the Thames. It is a listed building and was once used as a backdrop for a number of Hammer films shot in the Bray Studios. Also scenes of the episode Silent World of the television series Inspector Morse and Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner was filmed here. In the 1970s the church was unnecessary and 1983 she was transferred to the Friends of Friendless Churches, which they repaired and preserved so that visitors and residents continue to benefit from the structure.
