Geography

Geographical Location

Breaking located in the southeastern part of the Limburg Basin between the Taunus and Westerwald. The poor forest Lößhügelland is here crossed from southeast to northwest from Emsbach which receives the Wörsbach at Niederbrechen and the area drained to the Lahn out. Together with the south subsequent Idsteiner Valley the landscape is known under the popular name Goldener Grund, which refers to the favorable climate and fertile soils.

Neighboring communities

To the northwest the municipality breaking borders the county town of Limburg, to the north on the town of Runkel, to the northeast of the market town Villmar, to the southeast on the community of seltzer (Taunus ), and to the southwest to the community Hünfelden (all in Limburg- Weilburg ).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms bears Brechener in four fields, the symbols of the church patrons of the three districts, Bear (Saint Maximin ), Dragon ( St. George ) and Rose ( St. Felicitas ) and the red cross of Trier as a reference to the former belonging to the Electorate of Trier.

Community structure

The municipality consists of three parts breaking:

  • Niederbrechen is the administrative center and the largest of the three districts,
  • Oberbrechen and
  • Werschau.

History

The first mention find Lower and Upper breaking under the name Brachina ( " on the mountain slope ") in a deed of gift of the monastery Lorsch August 12, 772 In the period following the places become the property of the Abbey of St. Maximin Trier. Over many centuries of possession between the Electorate of Trier and the Counts of Molsberg switches back and forth.

Significance of the places through its location on the trade route Cologne - Frankfurt ( Via Publica) as an outpost kurtrierischen area to Frankfurt. Niederbrechen possessed in the Middle Ages temporarily city rights and a city wall still preserved today in parts.

The complex situated in the municipality Berger church has existed since the Carolingian period and was the mother church of the region. She was the local Church of deserted mountains, which must have perished 1354-1490. The first documented mention was 910 instead; present building parts can be dated back to about the turn of the millennium.

The district Werschau is first mentioned in 1235.

1802 is the municipality with the Principality of Nassau -Weilburg, which was annexed in 1866 by Prussia.

Starting in 1886, the three municipalities belonged to the district of Limburg, from 1974 to the district Limburg -Weilburg.

Incorporations

The community was breaking in the course of municipal reform in Hesse. At first, low breakage and Werschau closed on 31 December 1971 on the new community breaking together. Oberbrechen was added on July 1, 1974.

Economy and infrastructure

The previously dominant agriculture is still significant, almost 70 % of the municipal area is agricultural land of less than ten full- time farms. Breaking, however, has been transformed into residential community, 90 % of workers earn their living in the surrounding towns, but mainly in the Rhine- Main area.

Traffic

Breaking is Limburg -Süd A 3 -connected by the connection point 6 km away to the road network. Through the village runs the B 8

The stations Niederbrechen and Oberbrechen lie at the RMV line 20, Limburg an der Lahn -Frankfurt am Main.

The high-speed line Cologne-Rhine/Main crosses with the Wörsbachtalbrücke the municipality. About the route around five kilometers from the train station Limburg Süd trains to Frankfurt and Cologne ( and beyond) in a largely hourly.

The Hessian Radfernweg R8 runs through the towns of Lower and Upper breaking breaking.
