Brooklyn (New South Wales)

Brooklyn is a small suburb with about 700 inhabitants in the north of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. Brooklyn is located 51 kilometers north of the city center in the administrative area ( LGA) Hornsby Shire. It is the northernmost suburb of the city of Sydney.

Brooklyn extends along a narrow coastal strip on the south side of the Hawkesbury River. In the south of the Ku-ring -gai Chase National Park is immediately adjacent to the site.

The area was long known as Peat 's Ferry Crossing after George Peat, a European settler was assigned country in 1836 and einrichtete a ferry across the Hawkesbury River. To this day, the name Peat 's Ferry Bridge, the bridge of the Pacific Highway over the river at this time. The railway reached the area in 1877. Was the first time the name Brooklyn is mentioned in January 1884, when Peter and William Fagan, a 30 -acre piece of land could enter under this name. The name derives from the Dutch town Breukelen.
