Broșteni, Suceava

Broşteni is a town in Suceava County in Romania.

Location

Broşteni situated on the river Bistrita in the Eastern Carpathians, between the mountains Stanisoara in the northeast and in the southwest of Bistrita. The county capital of Suceava is located about 60 km northeast.

History

From one derived from the 1630 document shows that the area of the present town since 1488 belonged to the monastery Voroneţ. Until 1807 Broşteni remained under his rule. In 1779 the church was built. Then the city came into the possession of the noble family Bals to 1877. During this period developed in Broşteni to a greater extent the extraction and processing of wood. 1831, the city was seat of the municipality. 1840 opened the first school. 1877, the lands of King Carol I. were acquired; Broşteni received following the telegraph network. During the First World War, the city had to suffer destruction. After the Communist takeover of the royal property was nationalized. Some industries ( textile production, wood processing) and blocks of flats were built. The surrounding mountains were mining activities (including manganese ).

After the Romanian Revolution of 1989, the economic structure of the community changed by the loss of many industrial jobs. 2004, the site was declared a city.

The main industries are cattle breeding and wood production and processing.

Population

1930 lived on the territory of today's approximately 2,500 residents. As of the 2002 census, 6,603 inhabitants were counted in the community, including 6,579 Romanians and 11 Hungary. Approximately 2,300 lived in Broşteni itself, the others in the incorporated villages.

Traffic

Broşteni has no rail connection. Several daily buses to Piatra Neamt, Vatra Dornei and Câmpulung Moldovenesc. The city is located on the National Road 17B of Poiana Largului by Vatra Dornei.
