Buky Schwartz

Buky Schwartz, also Moshe Schwartz, ( born June 16, 1932 in Jerusalem, † 1 September 2009 in Tel Aviv) was an Israeli sculptor and video artist.

Life and work

Buky Schwartz studied from 1956 to 1958 with the sculptor Itzhak Danziger at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv. He went in 1959 to London, where he continued from 1959 to 1962 his sculpture studies at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. In 1960, Schwartz participant was Bildhauersymposion St. Margaret of Karl Prantl with another stone sculptors in Austria at St. Margaret in Burgenland. In October 1961, he took with Herbert Baumann, Gerson Fehrenbach and Yasuo Mizui in the Symposium of European sculpture from 1961 to 1963 in part, the so-called wall Symposium in Berlin, before that he was in the summer of 1961 participants in the first West German Sculpture Symposium, the Sculpture Symposium Kaisersteinbruch in Gaubüttelbrunn in Lower Franconia.

In 1963 he returned to Israel; there he sat down to his ability to geometric steel structures. He represented Israel at the Venice Biennale in 1960 and 1966 In 1971, he moved to New York. ; there he continued his artistic ideas into video art. In 1987 he was invited to Documenta 8 in Kassel in Germany.

The artist lived and worked until his death in 2009 in Tel Aviv and New York.
