History

The debut Populous 1989 had its origin in the Hammurabi, one of the earliest computer games mentioned in the classification system of Chris Crawford as a learning game.

1995 Bullfrog was acquired by Electronic Arts. This led many employees to the view to reduce significantly the developer freedom to Bullfrog. Due to this fact left founder Peter Molyneux, the company in 1997 and founded the Lionhead Studios. Bullfrog developed fewer and fewer games in the following years and was merged after the migration of many other employees in 2004 with EA UK.

Years after the end of Bullfrog Productions explained Electronic Arts boss John Riccitiello on the computer games conference DICE 2008, that the merger of Electronic Arts Bullfrog - have simply screwed up - but also the company Origin Systems and Westwood Studios. Bullfrog founder Peter Molyneux concurred Electronic Arts chief at later and explained that he himself had played a part in the demise of Bullfrog. So he did not get along with the rapid increase in staff and the tremendous changes.
