Bungay

Bungay is a British small town in Suffolk, East Anglia ( East Anglia ), England.

It is located in northern Suffolk, the District Waveney on the eponymous river, in the area of the Broads National Park, 7 km west of Beccles, about 25 km west of East Anglian North Sea coast at Lowestoft and 25 km south of Norwich, the county seat of Norfolk.

In Roman times the city was due to its location on a river in a marshy area place a military fortress. In the city there are also tombs from the earliest Anglo-Saxon period (6th - 7th century). In the Middle Ages, the Norman fortress Bungay Castle and a Benedictine priory was established.

The population now stands at just under 5000 (4895 according to the UK census of 2001).
