Burgenland state election, 2005

The state elections in Burgenland ( Austria ) 2005 was held on 9 October 2005. According to the official results, the SPÖ won with 52.2 percent added 5.7 percentage points, reaching an absolute majority. The ÖVP gained 1.01 percentage points to 36.3 percent. The FPÖ lost 6.9 percentage points to 5.8 percent. The Greens lost 0.3 percent and remained at 5.2 percent fourth power in the parliament. The turnout was 80.1 percent.

For the first time in the elections also citizens aged 16 and over were eligible to vote.

The new parliament of Burgenland was constituted on 25 October 2005, the same day the country Hans Niessl was re-elected to his post by the Diet.
