Bushbuckridge

Province

Bushbuckridge ( Afrikaans: Bosbokrand ) is a city in the province of Mpumalanga in the north- east of South Africa. The name stands for Bushbuck (German: " bushbuck " ) and ridge (German: " back " ), and was given to the place because of the large herds of antelope that were found there at the time of inception. The city grew around a trading post, which was founded there in 1884. Tobacco, cotton and vegetable cultivation have developed in the surrounding area.

The city today has a size of 73 km ² and 2,109 inhabitants (as of 2011).

The inhabitants of the town and the surrounding country quarreled with the provincial government of Limpopo, because they felt more the province of Mpumalanga, connected with the nearby capital of Mbombela as its then province of Limpopo. In 2006 the town was part of Mpumalanga.
