Bydgoszcz Główna ( before 1920 and from 1939 to 1945 Bromberg Hauptbahnhof) is the main station of the Polish town of Bydgoszcz ( Bromberg ). He is one of the largest railway stations in Poland and the largest train station in the Kujawsko - Pomerania. According to the classification of the Polish State Railways it is classified in the highest category A station.

The train station of Bydgoszcz was originally commissioned on July 27, 1851 with the opening of the Prussian Eastern Railway from Pila ( Pila ).

System of the station

The station is located northwest of the city of Bydgoszcz at the ulica Zygmunta Augusta 7 and is approximately 2000 meters from the Market Square. The tracks run through the station on the ground level of the southwest over two parallel Brda bridges coming to the northeast, where a bifurcation takes place in two lines. The station represents a hybrid between transit and railway terminus and consists of a south-east of the tracks nearby reception building with ticket office and an older three-story elongated island station building with two projections. The architectural forms of the reception building are modern, but it is the conversion of an older building with a pitched roof. The buildings are currently (2008) in need of renovation, but it exist on the part of the state railway and the city of Bydgoszcz renovation and expansion plans.

Overall, the Bydgoszcz Central Station currently has nine tracks for passengers. On the city side reception building a house platform, north-west of which is followed by an island platform with two tracks. The single standing building of the station is surrounded by two house platforms, in addition, there forming two stub tracks for trains arriving from the north-east, and between them a siding. Another dead-end track was shut down and demolished. Farthest north-west, a second island platform with two tracks located. All platforms are covered and connected with each other or with the buildings through a pedestrian underpass.

North-west of the passenger station, there is a concise disused water tower from brick and four historical Lokremisen. A rotunda - shaped building and a shed with a rectangular ground plan have long been shut down, but there in two ring shed still operating. In the immediate vicinity are the buildings of the automotive company PESA Bydgoszcz SA Pojazdy Szynowe, former locomotive repair workshop ZNTK Bydgoszcz.

Railway and urban transport

In Bydgoszcz Główna station stop several commuter trains of the genera osobowy ( regional train) and Pospieszny (corresponding to D- train or express train, but is served by the local transport company PKP Przewozy Regionalne ). There are five Fernverkehrszughalte the genus TLK - Tanie line JSC. Through the station lead following railway lines:

  • D18 Kutno - Pila Główna. This electrified railway line, direction Kutno leader ( to the east ), connects Bydgoszcz with Toruń and thus the two main cities of the province. The section between Bydgoszcz and Pila is the Eastern Railway route from the year 1851.
  • Chorzów Batory D131 - Tczew. Line to Chorzów is part of the coal - highway, the route Tczew was opened on 6 August 1862 as a branch line of the Eastern Railway
  • D356 Poznań Wschód - Bydgoszcz Główna
  • D745 Czyżkówko - Bydgoszcz Główna

All tracks are electrified.

Every day, about 27,000 passengers use the bus stops at the train station to complete. By January 1990, this has been well served by trams, but it was because of explosion hazard of the ailing underground gas pipes that ran under the tracks, the decommissioning of the line. However, end of September 2010, work began for the resumption of the tram line to the station, but with a slightly modified lines. For the new stretch a Cable-stayed bridge was built. The station square was remodeled and modernized. Subsequently, the tram is led away about 800m to a new turning loop from the train station. The opening track was initially planned in September 2012, finally took place due to a delay in construction in December 2012.
