Cabrières-d'Avignon

Cabrières- d'Avignon is a commune with 1772 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

The village is situated on the Monts de Vaucluse, on a sloping hillside overlooking the Luberon Mountains. The municipality is part of the Luberon Regional Nature Park.

History

In the eleventh-twelfth century the castle of Adhemar family was built.

In the sixteenth century cabrières was the center of Waldensian resistance and was destroyed in a massacre on April 19, 1545. 1720 reached a plague Provence and led to the construction of Pestmauer, which runs to the west of the church.
