Cityscape

Calarasi is a typical südrumänische industrial town with a strong " systematisiertem " - that is, under Ceauşescu partially torn and completely new built - the city center. The city is a mixture of huge, often derelict industrial sites (steel combine Siderca ), rural peripheral areas and large prefabricated concrete housing estates. Worth seeing in the city center are only a few buildings: the prefecture and the city hall, some old churches and a modern socialist, but architecturally interesting Palace of Culture. A plus point is the scenic location of the city on tree- dense riparian forests Bratul Borcea, a tributary of the Danube with beautiful beaches, zoo and botanical garden.
