Camooweal

Camooweal is a town in north-western Queensland in Australia, which is situated on the Barkly Highway near the Northern Territory border. It is about 188 kilometers from the town of Mount Isa and has about 200 inhabitants.

The discoverer William Landsborough, after the Landsborough Highway is named, was the first European to 1862 in search of the missing researchers William John Wills and Robert O'Hara Burke in the area around Camooweal.

In the resort, which was founded in 1884, there are opportunities for shopping and camping. The place can be used as a starting point for Camooweal Caves National Park.

The nationally known Australian country singer Slim Dusty, who sang the farewell song Waltzing Matilda at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, immortalized the town in the song Camooweal.
