Camooweal-Caves-Nationalpark

The Camooweal Caves National Park (English Camooweal Caves National Park ) is a national park in the north- west of the Australian state of Queensland.

Location

The nature reserve is located 1720 km northwest of Brisbane and eight kilometers south of Camooweal on the Barkly Highway, east of the Georgina River. The area is one of the Barkly Tablelands, a table-land, which spreads over the east of the Northern Territory and the north-west of Queensland.

Landforms

The flat steppe land consists of soluble dolomite, which have been formed by rain water sinkholes and caves that are connected up to 75 feet deep and with shafts. These sinkholes and caves are not accessible to visitors, but make for hikers a certain hazard, hineinzustürzen.

Flora and Fauna

In the semi-arid area, there are very lights eucalyptus forest, scrubland with turpentine - acacia and large areas with spinifex and Astrebla.

The park serves as a migratory stopover on the way to their winter quarters in northern Australia. At times, one can observe waterfowl and Headquartered in light forest bird species.

Facilities

In the park there are two short trails, the Little Nowranie Cave Walking Track and the Great Nowranie Cave Walking Track. Both begin at a car park where camping is permitted. One can explore the park with mountain bikes, dirt bikes and four-wheel drive vehicles.
