Curtis-Island-Nationalpark

The Curtis Iceland National Park (English: Curtis Iceland National Park ) is a national park in the east of the Australian state of Queensland.

Location

It is located 474 km north-west of Brisbane, 40 kilometers southeast of Rockhampton and 30 kilometers north of Gladstone on the east coast of the island of the same name. The National Park extends over the coastal areas of the Black Head in the south to Cape Capricorn in the north.

In the vicinity of the National Parks Wild Cattle Iceland, Rundle Range, Capricorn Coast and Capricornia Cays lie.

Flora and Fauna

The park coastal heathland, coastal rain forest, sand dunes, beach ridges and salt flats found. Here the rare Black-necked stork ( Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus ) is native.

Facilities

In the National Park there are no special facilities for the tourists, but wild camping is permitted.

Economy

At the southern tip of the island - south of the National Park - emerged tank and port facilities for the shipment of coal bed methane, a gas liquefaction plant.
